Marc Babcock just wants to have fun playing music.

After hand building studio acoustic panels that could be linked together, hung up and placed on walls for the Tiny Shed LA, we were eager to test out the space and get some feedback from a local musician. It was after a solid week of rain here in Los Angeles when Marc Babcock joined us. Unfazed by the weather, he shook out his jacket and enjoyed the rain through the shelter of the shed.  

“Music always made me feel understood so if I create something that does that for one person I would say my goal has been accomplished.”

Marc is a Massachusetts bred multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter hybrid. He is known most popularly for spending his time playing in bands, Andy Leon and Guppy. However, in the midst of these projects he has finally begun the process of recording every instrument that will be featured on his own full-length album. He’s a bit of a one-man-band, and he surrounded the shed with just that.

“It's an intimate and blank space so it really has the ability to breed creativity that you can't always get in your home or a space that is filled with a lot of outside influence.” 

Swelling guitar sounds and bellowing vocals filled the shed with songs old and new as he embraced the freedom of playing outdoors, an element of the Tiny Shed experience he does not have at his own living space. Marc's solo experience in the shed lead him to discuss the collaborative element of the space and how he imagines jamming with artists he hasn't met or played with before.

We were excited to have Marc at Tiny Shed LA to not only hear how about he uses music to make sense of the world, but also to learn more about his creative process and experience with jamming in the shed solo. Read our full interview with him below.
